Ep. 35 - The Nathans Take Over!
Happy Mother's Day, mamas! We hope yesterday was a blessed day for you all! If you didn't see our Instagram post, we wanted you to know that you are doing an AMAZING job. Mothering is not for the faint of heart. It is exhausting, heartbreaking, selfless, and often thankless. If no one told you yesterday, what you do MEANS SOMETHING. The small, the mundane, the repetitive.... It all adds up to an enormous job that carries immeasurable weight and importance. You get up in the middle of the night, potty train for days on end, clean up snot, spit up, throw up, and poop, labor over your calendar to keep it all straight, attempt to help with reading and homework, cry tears of exhaustion, and then pray earnestly that your kids will forget all the mistakes you made that day and only remember the few times (it seems) where you got it right. Few, if any, will cheer you on in the day-to-day, and the days you need, really need, a standing ovation, you will instead be vomited on. But like we said in our post, WE. SEE. YOU. We stand for you and we applaud you. What you do every day is nothing short of amazing, even if some days it is just getting the tiny humans fed and back in bed at night. (Only to get back up again, but whatevs.) Mother's Day is the day not just for thanking our mothers, the mothers around us, and getting loved on by our own babies. It is the day we raise our three fingers, Katniss-style, to each other, saying, "thank you." We admire you, we respect you, and we back you. Today, give yourself some much needed grace and respect for all you do. And then sneak in a nap. :)
Now... Back to today's episode! Today, the Nathans took over the podcast! They "let us" have the day off in honor of Mother's Day - haha! They were a little nervous, but did a great job! The both had lots of books they referenced, and we are just going to list them here:
Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters by Dr. Meg Meeker - The book Nathan M refers to as sitting on his bedside table that hasn't been read yet.
Growing Kids God's Way by Gary Ezzo (no longer in print--used versions on amazon are going for $75!)
Classic Christianity by Bob George
Wild at Heart by John Eldredge
52 Things Kids Need from their Dad by Jay Payleitner
Boyd: The Fighter Pilot Who Changed the Art of War by Robert Coram
The Kid Who Climbed Everest by Bear Grylls
Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand
From our "I'm Totally Into..." segment:
Courtney's Nathan is totally into The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson.
Again, Happy Mother's Day, mamas! And have a great week!
